Students should review patient information on dobutamine stress echocardiography prior to this module (see, for instance, ardiogram.html). As preparation for the data set and the accompanying article, students should become familiar with coronary events (myocardial infarction, cardiac death, percutaneous transluminal coronary angioplasty, and coronary artery bypass surgery) and risk factors (high blood pressure, diabetes, and smoking), at the level of being able to read a newspaper article that uses these terms. The data set thus includes data on patient characteristics, physiological data under rest and dobutamine conditions, the history of medical conditions relevant to cardiac events, and outcome data during the subsequent twelve months. The data set is a compilation of medical records of patients who underwent dobutamine stress echocardiography and were followed for twelve months afterwards for occurrences of cardiac events.
